Trying to change an old, established habit is like trying to bend a leg that has been in a cast for most of your life!

As you work on establishing your own "voice of health," realize that this is your essence, this voice of love which has been trying to guide you all your life. It has been there all along, but has been drowned out in the loud, raucous cacophony of negative thoughts…

To really hear this voice, you must be willing to acknowledge your erroneous beliefs. Do not be afraid to face your "dark side."

Because change is often so frightening and seemingly impossible, start each sentence with, "Just for today…"

Just for today...

  • I will remember that genuine beauty is a natural, automatic result of having good character.

  • I will not obsess about external beauty, nor about my weight, my looks, my age, or my belongings. These things are of no eternal significance.

  • I will invest my energy in what is eternal.

  • I will direct my desire for excellence toward spiritual endeavors. Status in the material world is an illusion.

  • I will not drive myself or my family members relentlessly to be The Best.

  • I will remember that I have value as I am.

  • I will not fear being rejected as inadequate.

  • I surrender the desire to be adored. True admiration results from good character, especially being humble and caring for others.

  • I will resist the temptation to brag about my successes.

  • I will resist the temptation to shame others.

  • I will take people's feelings into consideration.

  • I will not see myself as entitled to more just because I have accomplished more.

  • I will not use others to get what I want.

  • I will try to truly care about others. Only then will others truly care about me.

  • I will not compete with others, but be more cooperative and seek harmony with them. The more competitive I am, the more hostile I will become.

  • I will see success in spiritual, not physical terms.

  • I will commit myself to meaningful causes. I have value only if I am a part of something of value.

  • I will have the courage to let others know how empty I feel at times or how undeveloped I am, and see that they love me and accept me anyway.

  • When I find myself running too fast, I will stop and ask myself if I really like what I am doing or what I am doing it for.

  • I will remember that God knows what I have accomplished. His recognition is all that counts.

  • I will use my gifts of high energy, ambition and performing skills to help others.

  • I surrender my fear of others getting ahead of me.

  • I validate my need to be distant from abusive people.

  • I will not hide my flaws and failures. People will admire me more if I am real.

  • I will not suppress my feelings in order to function. I accept the full range of my feelings.

  • I will maintain my integrity and not compromise for the sake of popularity, wealth or fame.
